Wealth Management for Israeli Citizens

Philip Braude is an Investment Marketer licensed by the ISA and can provide a whole range of international wealth structuring and wealth management solutions to Israeli resident individuals and families.

Under Israeli regulations, individuals resident in Israel who require assistance with their investments should only use a licensed investment marketer who is supervised by the Israel Securities Authority.

Philip’s long-standing experience of the Israeli financial system from an Anglo-Saxon perspective enables him to advise Olim and expats from all over the world on issues that may affect their exposure in Israel and in their countries of origin, particularly where they retain a financial nexus or have family members and assets in Israel.

Israeli residents are taxed on their worldwide income so your wealth management should take into account all assets located outside Israel, and financial connections with family wealth in other jurisdictions, such as trusts and future inheritances.

Wealth Management for Olim Chadashim

If you have immigrated to Israel within the past 10 years or are considering making Aliyah, there are various Israeli tax benefits for Olim Chadashim that should be taken into consideration when managing your wealth.

From 1st January 2007, Israeli tax law granted a blanket 10 year tax exemption on non-Israeli assets and income earned by olim chadashim.

In addition to the 10 year tax exemption, olim chadashim were also granted a 10 year tax reporting exemption on their non-Israeli assets and income.

However, that 10-year tax window will close before you realize it, so it is crucial to undertake medium and long term financial planning well before the end of the 10 year exemption to ensure that your wealth is suitably structured.

Wealth Management for Americans in Israel

Americans living in Israel are required to file annual U.S. income tax returns on their worldwide income.

Financial institutions out of the US are not geared up to produce the necessary year-end tax reporting documentation, such as the 1099 year-end tax reporting forms, that they require to attach to their tax returns.

The Foreign Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Patriot Act and US SEC regulations are having a direct impact on U.S. nationals residing in Israel. Many Israeli banks and overseas investment companies are turning away American customers, which creates particular challenges for American expats looking to manage their wealth once outside of the U.S.

Philip Braude can offer the following services to American expatriates who are looking for US-compliant international investments:

  • Ensuring that you do not have any PFICs (e.g. non-US mutual funds) in your investment portfolio, which could attract unfavourable U.S. tax treatment.
  • Ensuring that the financial institutions hosting your accounts provide year-end reporting (Form 1099: Summary of Income & Form 8938: Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets) so that their annual U.S. income tax returns can be easily prepared

Ensuring that the financial institution is prepared to accept US nationals residing in Israel.
